Brian Sweeney’s calm and brave message in the face of danger on 9/11 still moves people today. Julie Sweeney Roth, his wife, finds strength in his last words to her, spoken moments before United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the Twin Towers. Brian, a former U.S. Navy pilot, was on that flight from Boston to Los Angeles, hijacked by terrorists. Sadly, none of the passengers survived the crash.

In his final moments, Brian left a heartfelt message for Julie. He said, “Hey Jules, this is Brian. I’m on an airplane that has been hijacked… if things don’t go well, and they’re not looking good, I want you to know that I absolutely love you. I want you to do good, have good times, same with my parents. I’ll see you when you get here. I want you to know that I totally love you. Bye, babe, hope I will call you.” This message remains a source of comfort for Julie, who shared it with the world a year after Brian’s passing.
Julie, who has since remarried and volunteers at the 9/11 Tribute Museum, emphasizes the message’s enduring importance. It’s a powerful reminder of love and hope from a tragic day in history, now a part of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum for all to hear and remember.
