In the Lipetsk region, two brothers, Vasily and Romain, decided to take a stroll across a frozen pond after school. Tragically, upon reaching the center of the pond, the ice began to crack, Romain’s leg broke, and he fell into the icy water.
Without hesitation, his brother Vasya rushed to rescue him and also fell into the water. Desperate for help, the boys shouted loudly.
Fortunately, Anatoly Bulgakov, a third-grade student who was nearby, heard their cries and immediately rushed to the scene.
Anatoly quickly assessed the situation and began searching for a long stick to aid the boys. He found a suitable branch and handed it over.
With Anatoly’s help, Vasya and Roman managed to get out of the icy water, soaked and shivering from the cold. They arrived home safe and sound, much to their parents’ relief.
News of Anatoly’s heroism spread rapidly, and he soon became a local celebrity. When questioned by journalists, the humble 14-year-old hero explained that he wasn’t concerned for himself but was most worried about preventing his brothers from drowning.
Fortunately, despite their ordeal, his brothers did not fall ill. In recognition of his bravery, Anatoly received an award from the local department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and his school decided to display his portrait on the awards board.
Despite the harrowing experience, Vasya, Roman, and Anatoly remain close friends. However, wisely, they decided never to approach the pond again after that fateful day.
