The photographer Kirsty Perez has shared images on her blog capturing a man present during the birth of his child.
He is in tears, but not out of tenderness for the baby or even joy at becoming a father. The true cause of his tears deeply moved the photographer.
At first glance, the pictures may seem ordinary – doctors, a delivery room, a woman, and a weeping man. Nowadays, husbands are increasingly present during childbirth, and many document this intimate process.
Paternal tears are not uncommon, but this young father couldn’t hide his emotions for a surprising reason. Of course, he was happy, but the newborn was not the sole reason.
The pregnancy had been incredibly challenging for the woman. Throughout the entire period, she suffered from nausea and vomiting due to toxemia and lost weight.
These nine months were far from wonderful for her: due to dehydration, the woman had to be admitted to the hospital four times.
She lost 14 kilograms! The husband couldn’t eat inside the house because every smell triggered nausea and vomiting in his wife. He had to eat on the porch of the house.
Then came the moment when the newborn was placed on his mother’s chest. All the difficulties and fears during the pregnancy were forgotten.
Tears streamed down the face of the young father.
This touched the photographer, and she turned to the man with supportive words.
But his response surprised her even more.
He said, “In 9 months, this is the first time she’s smiled.”
