A senior couple passed away on the same day, concluding 71 years of shared companionship…

Herbert and Marilyn Francis DeLagle, two souls who shared an extraordinary journey of 71 years in wedded bliss, bid farewell within a mere 12 hours of each other on the same poignant day.

Their love story unfolded in a quaint Waynesboro café, where 22-year-old Herbert and 16-year-old Frances first crossed paths. A blossoming connection prompted Herbert to frequent the establishment where Frances worked, deepening their bond.

Summoning his courage, Herbert invited Frances to a local movie theater, igniting the spark of a romance that would endure a lifetime. A year later, he knelt before her with a heartfelt proposal, met by Frances’s resounding “Of course!”

Their wedding day, though nearly disrupted by Herbert’s perpetual tardiness, proceeded with joy and laughter, marking the beginning of a shared life’s journey. Herbert, aged 94, bid adieu in the early hours of a Friday morning.

Twelve hours later, Marilyn joined him, possibly succumbing to the profound grief of losing her lifelong companion.

In the wake of their departure, the DeLagle legacy lives on through six children, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

The couple’s enduring love story continues to weave its threads through the rich tapestry of their expansive and loving family.
