When troops return home to their families, it is one of the most heartwarming occurrences. Captain Cody Kermerling and his college-aged twin daughters are the heroes of this novel. Because their father had been in Kuwait for ten months, Maria and Michaela couldn’t afford for him to drop them off before college. He did, however, attend one of the season’s most important games at the University of Missouri.
The surprise visit was organized by everyone at the campus. The twins’ trainer persuaded them to honor their father. ‘We were watching a basketball game in Mizzu and we were just told that we were going to represent our father in the Veterans United Heroes of the Day competition and we had no idea he would be there,’ Michaela explained.
Michaela grabbed an arm and turned it around while the girls were in pain on the floor. “Suddenly, I felt someone grasp me,” Michaela recalled. My first thought was, “Who grabbed me, and what’s going on?” And then I looked around and saw it was him!”
