Many times, humans or animals are written off due to disabilities or flaws. Others see them and assume they will be a burden since they will require assistance getting around and performing other tasks. They are blind to the potential of the handicapped or disfigured individual. Thankfully, one person was not repelled by the sight of this kitty.
This kitten was discovered on the streets of Egypt. His rear legs were completely immobile, and he was on the verge of being euthanized. But Athina noticed something about his demeanor, a pleasant purring spirit, and she transported him from Egypt to the United States, where he was effectively rehabilitated. There were many doubters and skeptics, but she was confident that he could accomplish it, as this video demonstrates.
Lt. Dan is a tenacious combatant, to say the least. He’s set on rehabilitating himself so that he can walk without assistance. He’s walking with a harness in the video, but two months later, he doesn’t need it. What a fantastic story! He’s now living with a foster household and behaving like any other cat. When faced with a challenge, none of us should quit. Make it a speed bump rather than a barrier.
I’m delighted Athina didn’t listen to those who advocated for Lt. Dan’s euthanasia. When it comes to animals with any form of impairment or disfigurement, that should be the absolute last resort, not the first thing that enters the mind. It’s not fair to them, and it might put a bright light like Lt. Dan out of business before they’ve even had a chance to shine. It’s a brilliant light, indeed, thanks to Athina and those who aided this kitty rehab!
